Must read

Kamonyi District’s security agencies are on high alert, pursuing a man suspected of hurling a grenade at a local resident’s home. The attack, which occurred on the night of January 13, has left the community of Mbati Cell, Mugina Sector, reeling with shock.

The suspect, identified as Jean Baptiste Nkurikiyingoma, is alleged to have targeted the home of Jean Marie Vianney Muganza due to a personal dispute. According to Kamonyi District Mayor Sylvere Nahayo, the conflict was reportedly fueled by accusations that Muganza was involved in an affair with Nkurikiyingoma’s wife.

Although the grenade explosion caused significant damage to the house’s door, there were no injuries as the attack occurred while the occupants were inside.

Mayor Nahayo confirmed that the suspect is a retired soldier. However, details regarding how Nkurikiyingoma obtained the grenade remain unclear, raising questions about the circulation of weapons within the region.

Local authorities, in collaboration with security agencies, are conducting an intensive search for Nkurikiyingoma. The incident highlights the need for addressing domestic disputes and enhancing security measures to prevent the misuse of military-grade weapons by civilians.

Community members have expressed both fear and concern, calling for swift justice to ensure safety in the area. As investigations continue, the district leadership has urged residents to cooperate with authorities by providing any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

This incident underscores the broader challenge of controlling access to dangerous weapons in civilian settings, even in post-military life.
