Defense leaders from Russia and DRCongo reaffirm close ties

Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov met his Congolese counterpart Lt. Gen. Charles Richard Mondjo on Wednesday to strengthen bilateral military cooperation.

The meeting, held in Moscow, reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between Russia and the Republic of the Congo, rooted in decades of diplomatic and military collaboration.

Belousov emphasised the “traditionally friendly” nature of their relations, describing defence ties as a central pillar of broader cooperation between the two nations.

He noted that both countries have established a robust legal framework supporting defence and military-technical cooperation, enabling expanded strategic engagement.

During the talks, Belousov also extended his gratitude to Mondjo for attending the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II.

Mondjo welcomed the opportunity to discuss key issues in the defence sector, praising the depth and continuity of military relations with Russia.

The discussions signal a renewed push by Moscow to bolster alliances in Africa, where historic ties remain a strategic asset in a shifting global order.
