The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the draw for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which features national teams composed of domestic players, will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on January 15, 2025. This comes despite concerns about Kenya’s delayed preparations.
CHAN 2024 is scheduled to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from February 1 to February 28, 2025. The tournament will feature 19 national teams, although only 17 have been confirmed so far, with CAF still determining the final two participants.
Tanzania and Uganda have completed their preparations, including stadiums and other facilities needed for the tournament. However, Kenya is still working to renovate its stadiums, particularly Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Center. CAF has set January 15, 2025, as the final deadline for Kenya to complete these renovations.
CAF stated:
“The CHAN 2024 draw will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on January 15, 2025. This date also serves as Kenya’s final deadline to complete the preparations for its stadiums.”
With just 28 days until the tournament kicks off, CAF is yet to confirm the last two participating countries to join the 17 already qualified.
CHAN is a platform for promoting local talent by showcasing players who compete domestically in their respective countries.
Rwandans are eagerly awaiting to see how the Amavubi will perform in the group stage, which will be determined during the draw in Kenya.
