Renowned Burundian zouk artist Kidum and Rwanda’s popular Shauku Music are set to host a concert titled “Soirée Dansante” (Evening of Dance) on August 23 at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (KCEV).

The event is part of Kidum’s ongoing “100 Stages in 1000 Hills” series, marking another milestone in the “Mapenzi” singer’s long-standing performance history in Kigali. Kidum, famous for his hit song “Kumushaha,” last graced the Kigali stage at the Kigali Jazz Junction in 2023, where he performed alongside Rwandan afro-pop star Confy and Uganda’s B2C boy band.

Concert organizer Dany Zibera Uwizeyimana revealed that the event will be an exclusive, table-seated affair, with audiences positioned both at the front and back of the venue. The evening promises live performances, with Shauku Music joining Kidum, whose real name is Jean Pierre Nimbona, on stage.

“This will be an evening of dance for those seeking to unwind and have fun. The duo will perform a diverse repertoire, tailored to the audience,” said Uwizeyimana.

In a phone interview, Kidum expressed his gratitude and excitement about performing in Rwanda, stating, “Rwandans haven’t had enough of me. They always welcome me warmly and appreciate my presence on the over 100 stages I’ve performed in Kigali.”

He added, “It’s always like coming home, and I believe my experience will not disappoint.”

Kidum began his music journey as a drummer in Burundi, playing with bands such as Imvumero Band (1986-1992) and Imboneza Band (1992-1993). In 1994, he launched his own band, Electric Power, though it lasted only a year due to the war in Burundi. He later fled to Kenya, where he joined the Hot Rod Band, performing with them until 2003. In 2004, he formed the Boda Boda Band.

Kidum continues to be a beloved figure in his home country and across East Africa, with an array of hit songs including ‘Sherekea,’ ‘Amosozi y’Urukundo,’ ‘Intimba,’ ‘Amafaranga,’ and ‘Haturudi Nyuma,’ the latter featuring Ugandan artist Juliana Kanyomozi.
