Alain Mukuralinda passes away at 55

Alain Mukuralinda, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Government of Rwanda, has passed away.Mukuralinda succumbed to complications from a heart attack while receiving treatment at King Faisal Hospital.

The news of his passing was confirmed on Friday, April 4, 2025, by the Office of the Government Spokesperson. A statement released by the office read:

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of the Deputy Spokesperson of the Government, Mr. Alain Mukuralinda. He passed away while undergoing treatment at King Faisal Hospital. The Government of Rwanda extends its condolences to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege to work with him.”

Mukuralinda’s sudden death has left many in shock, as it was unexpected. Medical experts confirmed that his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his demise.

Alain Mukuralinda was appointed as Deputy Spokesperson of the Government in December 2021 following approval by the Cabinet. Before this role, he had served in various capacities within the government, including as a Prosecutor and the Spokesperson of the National Public Prosecution Authority until 2015, when he stepped down from public service.

Born in Kigali in 1970, Mukuralinda held a law degree from the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium, which he obtained in 1998.

Aside from his legal and governmental career, Mukuralinda was also widely known as a musician under the stage name Alain Muku. He was passionate about music and contributed significantly to the Rwandan music industry, both as an artist and as a mentor to other musicians. Some of his popular songs included Tsinda Batsinde, a tribute to Rwanda’s national football team, Gloria, a Christmas song, and Murekatete, a love song.

Mukuralinda leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service and artistic contributions that enriched Rwanda’s cultural and political landscape. His passing is a great loss to the nation.
