Al Ahly defeat Police VC to clinch 17th African club championship in Kigali
Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC were crowned champions of the 2026 Africa Men’s Volleyball Club Championship after defeating Rwanda’s Police VC in straight sets (25–20, 25–21, 25–22) in the final held at BK Arena on Saturday.
Cuban opposite hitter Masso Alvarez played a decisive role, scoring 13 points to guide his side to their 17th continental title without dropping a single set and secure qualification for the upcoming FIVB Men’s Club World Championship.

Coached by American Gordon Mayforth, Al Ahly seized control early in the opening set, with Alvarez, middle blocker Abou Abd Elhalim Mohamed, and setter Alexandre Butko orchestrating a series of powerful attacks that exposed Police VC’s defense.
Despite spirited resistance from Police hitters Bettim Mateus and Elphas Makuto, alongside five points from middle blocker Frank Shyaka, the Rwandan side struggled to contain Al Ahly’s intensity, as the Egyptians claimed the first set 25–20.

In the second set, Police head coach Fred Musoni made tactical adjustments, introducing middle blocker Placide Sibomana who joined captain Eric Kwizera to stabilize the team. However, Al Ahly maintained control, with Alvarez adding four more points to help seal the set 25–21.
The third set proved more competitive, with Police pushing hard to stay in contention. Nevertheless, Al Ahly’s experience ultimately proved decisive, as they edged the set 25–22 to complete a straight-sets victory and lift the title.
Al Ahly's Abdelarahman Elhossiny Eissa, who contributed 60 points to the championship glory in Kigali, was named player of the tournament.
