AFC/M23 Suspends Senior Political Leader Amid Misconduct and Rape Allegations
The leadership of AFC/M23 has suspended its senior political figure, Yannick Tshisola Kwasa Mukwenu, following allegations of serious misconduct, according to an official communication issued on March 16.
In a letter addressed to Tshisola, the deputy coordinator of the movement, Bertrand Bisimwa, informed him of his temporary suspension citing a pattern of behavior deemed incompatible with the group’s standards. The accusations include failure to fulfill responsibilities and violations of principles of good governance.
AFC/M23 stated that the suspension is provisional and intended to allow for a thorough investigation into the allegations. “Based on reports highlighting inappropriate conduct on your part, we regret to inform you of your temporary suspension while investigations are ongoing,” the letter reads.
Tshisola had been a key figure within the coalition, responsible for coordinating political activities and shaping strategic direction. He was also among representatives who participated in negotiations between AFC/M23 and the government in Kinshasa since 2025.
The suspension comes amid reports that Tshisola has been in detention for the past three days over allegations of rape. The case reportedly stems from a complaint filed by a woman identified as Solange, who accused him of attempting to sexually assault her in his office while she was at work.
