The President of Guinea-Conakry, General Mamadi Doumbouya, is in Rwanda for an official visit aimed at reinforcing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Guinean Embassy in Rwanda, President Doumbouya was warmly received on Thursday evening by members of the Guinean community living in Rwanda. His arrival marks another step in fostering diplomatic and economic collaboration between Guinea and Rwanda.
The Office of the President of Guinea had earlier announced that General Doumbouya would stop over in Kigali before heading to Libreville, Gabon, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
This is not President Doumbouya’s first visit to Rwanda. He last visited in August 2024 to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Paul Kagame following his re-election.

Rwanda and Guinea-Conakry enjoy a longstanding and multifaceted relationship. In October of last year, the two countries signed 12 cooperation agreements covering various sectors such as tourism, agriculture, energy, exports promotion, economic development, security, mining, culture, and the advancement of special economic zones.
Their diplomatic ties have deepened over the years, and both nations have committed to strengthening bilateral collaboration. Notably, in 2016, Rwandan President Paul Kagame was awarded Guinea’s highest national honor — the Grand Croix — in recognition of his leadership and contribution to African unity and development.
President Doumbouya’s visit underscores a shared vision for African cooperation and marks another milestone in the growing partnership between Rwanda and Guinea.
