A military aircraft belonging to the Belgian Armed Forces, specifically an Airbus A400M Atlas with the identification CT-01, has continued to appear at various airports across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
On Monday, the aircraft was spotted at Kindu Airport, having arrived from Lubumbashi in the Katanga region, heading northward.
In recent days, the same military aircraft was recently seen at Kisangani Airport, triggering serious concerns about a possible covert operation and raising urgent questions about the weapons or classified equipment it might be transporting.
The aircraft is reportedly used by the Belgian Armed Forces and also associated with operations of the Luxemburg Armed Forces. It has been observed multiple times within the DRC, with its missions described as “special operations,” though specific details remain undisclosed.
Analysts are questioning the presence of the aircraft at a time when insecurity persists in many parts of eastern Congo, particularly in North and South Kivu provinces.
It’s important to note that many of the technologically advanced airstrikes, including those using drones and small military aircraft targeting the M23 rebel group, are said to have originated from Kisangani, a city where Belgium and its partners have been linked to several military operations.
However, as of now, neither the Belgian government nor the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) have issued a clear statement explaining the repeated presence of this aircraft in the region, although it is said to be on a “special mission.”
