Health officials in Davao City, southern Philippines, confirmed two cases of mpox on Friday, with one patient succumbing to complications, according to a public advisory.
The Davao City Health Office said both patients were admitted to the isolation unit at the Southern Philippines Medical Center. “Unfortunately, one of the patients has passed away due to complications,” the statement noted, adding that authorities are actively tracing contacts and enforcing response measures.
Residents have been urged to stay calm, avoid panic, and follow health protocols, including avoiding close skin contact to prevent infection.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of March 30, 2025, there have been 24,177 confirmed mpox cases and 98 deaths reported in 23 countries over the past year. The Democratic Republic of the Congo accounts for the majority of cases (14,566), followed by Uganda (4,881) and Burundi (3,725).
