The President of the Republic of Rwanda and Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has announced the appointment of two high-ranking officers to key military positions, with immediate effect.

Maj Gen Alex Kagame has been named Chief of Staff of the Reserve Force. His appointment follows the completion of his recent mission in Mozambique, where he commanded the Rwanda Security Forces Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Cabo Delgado region. Under his leadership, the task force played a pivotal role in stabilizing the region amid ongoing security challenges.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen Andrew Kagame has been appointed as the Commander of the 1st Division. Prior to this role, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Reserve Force, bolstering RDF’s strategic operations with his extensive experience in military leadership.

These changes are part of a broader effort to enhance the RDF’s leadership capacity and ensure operational readiness in line with national and regional security priorities.

Both officers bring years of expertise and experience to their new roles, contributing to the RDF’s ongoing mission to safeguard national sovereignty and regional stability
