Ugandan Footballers Denis Omedi and Hakim Kiwanuka Join APR FC

Must read

In a significant move for Ugandan football on the international stage, Denis Omedi and Hakim Kiwanuka have officially signed two-year contracts with Rwanda Premier League club APR FC. The transfers were confirmed today as the players attended APR’s match against Marines FC in Gishenyi.

Denis Omedi, a prolific striker who has been at the center of transfer rumors for some time, joins APR from Kitara FC where he had been playing since transferring from Booma FC two years ago. Kitara’s chairman, Deo Kasozi, acknowledged that Omedi had attracted attention from multiple clubs, with speculation linking him to a move to Singapore last month which ultimately did not materialize due to contractual disagreements. Omedi’s impact at Kitara was notable, particularly his role in securing the Stanbic Uganda Cup for the team.

His contributions to the Uganda Cranes have also been significant, particularly in the qualification for the AFCON 2025 where he scored two crucial goals.

Hakim Kiwanuka, known for his dynamic play on the wings for SC Villa, also put pen to paper today. His performances were instrumental in SC Villa clinching the Uganda Premier League title last season. Kiwanuka’s signing adds another layer of Ugandan talent to APR FC, joining fellow countryman Taddeo Lwanga, who is a defensive midfielder at the club.

The timing of their transfer coincides with their inclusion in the Uganda Cranes’ provisional squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) by coach Paul Put. However, their commitment to APR means they will not participate in the CHAN tournament, as their new club obligations take precedence.

The presence of these Ugandan internationals at APR FC is expected to bolster the team’s attacking options and contribute to their competitive edge in the Rwanda Premier League. Their arrival was celebrated by fans and the club, with both players seen engaging with supporters at the match.

This move not only signifies a personal milestone for Omedi and Kiwanuka but also strengthens the cultural and sporting ties between Ugandan and Rwandan football, showcasing the growing influence of Ugandan players in regional leagues.
