Businesses devastated by a raging fire in Zindiro, Kimironko Sector, Gasabo District, suffered an estimated loss of Rwf200 million. The blaze originated in a woodshop around 2:40 a.m. and quickly spread to neighboring establishments, including a food canteen and a cooking gas store, as witnessed by onlookers.
Alice Singanire, the head of the cooperative representing workshop owners in the area, confirmed that the damaged property, comprising carpentry machinery, wood, and cooking gas, could be valued at Rwf200 million. Singanire further stated that the losses had been reported to the local authorities.
Regrettably, none of the affected businesses had insurance coverage, according to Alice Singanire. She revealed that following a previous fire incident in the Gisozi workshops in February, some entrepreneurs from their vicinity had approached insurance companies seeking coverage. However, these companies hesitated to provide immediate assistance, stating the need for further discussions with their superiors.
